The best Gmail mail merge tools with automatic follow-ups

For one person on Gmail, the right pick depends on volume and billing. GMass suits high volume. Mailmeteor has the cheapest monthly plan with follow-ups. OutreachSheet is the one-time option. Gmail’s own merge has no follow-ups.

Written by the maker of OutreachSheet, so read it with that in mind. Competitor prices come from each company’s own pricing page on 26 October 2026, in the currency it showed a UK visitor. Prices change and vary by country, so check before you buy.

How we compared them

  • Which plan includes automatic follow-ups.
  • What one sender pays over two years (see the two-year cost table).
  • Where your contact list is stored.
  • What limits the number of emails a day.

GMass

Where it wins

Volume, tracked links, A/B tests, an API and team plans. It works inside Gmail, so you never leave your inbox.

Where it doesn’t

Follow-ups start at Premium, and you pay every year for every user. GMass shows prices in the visitor’s currency: pounds in the UK, dollars in the US.

Mailmeteor

Where it wins

A free plan, and the cheapest monthly plan with follow-ups: Premium at US$17.99 a month or US$161.99 a year.

Where it doesn’t

Follow-ups aren’t in Starter. Lifetime purchases ended in December 2024; earlier lifetime licences still work.

YAMM (Yet Another Mail Merge)

Where it wins

The simplest start: free for up to 20 recipients a day, with follow-up campaigns, open tracking and scheduling.

Where it doesn’t

It is built around one merge at a time. Paid plans are per user, per year, and prices vary by billing country.

OutreachSheet

We make this one. It is a Google Sheet you copy into your own account and buy once.

Where it wins

One payment, with follow-ups included. Follow-ups arrive in the same thread and stop once someone replies. Replies are sorted into real replies, out-of-office messages, bounces and unsubscribe requests. Each contact can get the sequence written for their country’s language, from one list. There is no OutreachSheet server; your list stays in your Google account.

Where it doesn’t

No Outlook, no open or click tracking, no AI writing, no warm-up service and no contact database. Google lets a script send to about 100 recipients a day on free Gmail and about 1,500 on Google Workspace.

Gmail’s built-in mail merge

Where it wins

Nothing to install if your Workspace plan includes it. Fine for one announcement to people who know you.

Where it doesn’t

No follow-ups and no reply handling, so it doesn’t suit outreach where most replies come from the second or third email.

Which should you choose?

  • Thousands of emails a week, with tracking: GMass.
  • The lowest monthly bill: Mailmeteor.
  • A free, occasional merge: YAMM.
  • Pay once, or write to several countries from one list: OutreachSheet.

Questions

Does Gmail have mail merge with automatic follow-ups built in?

No. Gmail’s built-in mail merge, on eligible paid Google Workspace plans, sends one personalised batch. Automatic follow-ups need an add-on, a script or a tool such as GMass, Mailmeteor, YAMM or OutreachSheet.

Is there a lifetime or one-time Gmail mail merge with follow-ups?

Mailmeteor stopped selling lifetime licences in December 2024, according to its pricing page. OutreachSheet is sold for one payment: £29 at launch for the first 50 buyers, then £49, with follow-ups included.

Which Gmail mail merge sends follow-ups in the same thread?

YAMM lists follow-ups in the same thread as a feature. OutreachSheet sends follow-ups in the same thread and stops them once someone replies; we tested both in a real inbox on 18 October 2026.
